Get the skills and certification needed to land entry-level jobs right out of high school. Become certified and work toward college credits through the Multimedia Graphics and Printing Production program at the NEWTECH Skill Center.

This is the only PrintED Industry accredited program in the state of Washington and has been continuously since 1993. Students can earn industry certificates in up to 9 different certification areas.

In this program, students will have the opportunity to work towards becoming PrintEd certified in:

  • Introduction to the Printing Industry
  • Digital Imaging Input
  • Digital Imaging Output
  • Advanced Digital Imaging
  • Finishing and Binding
  • Basic Press Operations

Learn about designing and printing for the following forms of media:

  • Letterhead
  • Envelopes
  • Brochures
  • Business Cards
  • Flyers
  • Posters
  • Invitations
  • Programs
  • Booklets

As part of the Graphic Communication curriculum, students will study:

  • Commercial art and graphic design skills
  • Desktop publishing skills
  • 2D and 3D imaging and animation techniques
  • Character development
  • Photography- digital and analog
  • Multimedia development
  • Technical illustration

Students will acquire the skills to design their own artwork or use digital photographs to put on T-shirts, coffee mugs, mouse pads, badges... or just about anything you can think of!

In this program, students will work with entire up-to-date Adobe Creative Suite, which includes:

  • Photoshop

  • Illustrator
  • Acrobat
  • Dreamweaver
  • Flash
  • Cinema 4D
  • Animation Master

Students will also recieve a comprehensive introduction to Graphic Communications:

  • Digital File Preparation
  • Digital  Production Printing

  • Offset Press operations
  • Advanced Offset Press Operations
  • Binding and Finishing

 

Upon semester completion of the Multimedia and Graphics Program, students will earn 1.5  Fine Art Credits towards their Washington State High School Diploma. Students may take the class in both Fall and Spring semesters, earning 3 Fine Art Elective Credits in a school year.

Upon successfully completing this program, you may earn up to 22 college credits at Spokane Falls Community College or 14 credits to Lewis and Clark State College and up to 20 credits at the Seattle Art Institute. The NEWTECH Skill Center is also currently in the process of students being able to obtain TechPrep credits to Seattle Central Community College.

Terri Haworth is the leading expert in Multimedia and Graphic Arts Education in the Spokane area. Terri has:

  • 30 years educational experience as a Graphic Communications Teacher
  • 3 years on the Building Leadership Team.
  • 3 years on the Spokane Education Association (SEA) building leadership team.

Terri is also involved in several professional associations that contribute to the success of the Multimedia and Graphic Arts Program at the NEWTECH Skills Center.

Professional Association Affiliations include:

  • 7 years as the Treasurer of the Technology and Industry subsection of the Washington Association for Career and Technical Educations (WA-ACTE)

  • 1990-1991 - Inland Empire Club International Association of Printing House Craftsmen Past President's Award in recognition of the significant contribution of knowledge, time, talent and enthusiasm for the advancement of  the Inland Empire Club of Printing House Craftsmen.
  • 1993 - Tech Graphics - Printing Award of Excellence - Pacific Printing and Imaging.
  • 2004-2005-T & I Technology and Industry - Teacher of the Year
  • 2005 - Outstanding T&I Teacher - T&I (WA-ACTE)
