Purpose of the Skills Center Advisory Committees
Skills Center advisory committees are made up of volunteers who agree to serve as advisors to Skills Center programs. Members include representatives from business, labor, community agencies, students, and parents of current and former students. Because of their working knowledge of requirements of specific occupations, they provide valuable advice, guidance, and assistance. These volunteers serve in an advisory capacity.
The primary purpose of advisory committees is to provide on-going evaluation and consultation about the curriculum to keep it current with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values identified as being necessary for students to work effectively in their chosen occupation.
At the Spokane Skills Center, there are two types of Skills Center Advisory Committees:
- The General Advisory Committee (GAC): Provides direction, guidance and advocacy to the entire Skills Center program. This committee works directly with the Skills Center Director.
- The Program Specific Advisory Committees: Focus on providing direction for a specific programs at Spokane Skills Center. These committees include:
